VMware Cloud on AWS vCenter (an overview)
Once the SDDC is deployed you will find the SDDC details in your org page under SDDCs section. you can deploy multiple SDDCs (depending upon number of hosts assigned to your org during your purchase of the subscription)
these SDDCs will also reflect the region where it is deployed. for getting more details of a specific SDDC click on view Details link at the bottom.
which opens the summary page of the SDDC
This gives you the capacity and usage of the SDDC along with number of host the SDDC is deployed with (In the picture above it shows 1 host .. Yes ! it's now possible to deploy your SDDC with 1 Node. but obviously it is only for testing not production), Its AWS region and Availability zone.
we will discuss about the other tabs in future blogs one by one, now lets see how can we open the vCenter.
you can do it in two ways
1) From the org page click open vCenter on any of the SDDC.
2) You can get vCenter url for accessing it from public (internet) in connections tab of specific sddc. (Remember that we can make the resolution of this url to private as well so if you don't want your vCenter to be available in public).
The username for logging in to the vcenter is cloudadmin@vmc.local and there is a password which is hidden by default.
you get that on connections info tab or when you click on open vCenter link
And finally here is the vCenter and you are ready to start spinning up your vms in vmware cloud on aws.
About the environment:
# You will find 1 cluster and 2 resource pool by default
# The Management-resource pool is, where all the management components reside (vcsa, nsx etc.)
# You are not allowed to do anything in management-resource pool (it is maintained and managed by vmware).
# You can create vms in compute-resource pool.
# By default there are 2 datastores which gets created
The vsanDatastore is again for management components. & the workloadDatastore is for storing your workload vms.
# These datastore is fully backed-up by vmware vSAN.
# If we talk about network, only Management network is created along with 1 default Logical network for compute, you can further create logical networks as per your usage and requirements, by clicking Menu > Global inventory list > Logical networks and add.
That's all for vCenter rest everyting is similar to your traditional vCenter.
And yes do not forget to check the esxi version in your vmc html client :) .
All these Esxis are hosted on physical box in Amazon datacenter, also if at any point of time one of the esxi becomes unresponsive or crashes, a new esxi will automatically gets added to your cluster.
